Sonja Kram - Clinical Psychologist (Macquarie)
Sonja is a Registered Clinical Psychologist at our Macquarie Psychology Clinic, with over 25 years of experience, spanning public health, private practice, and the corporate wellbeing sector. Sonja has worked in the public hospital system at Westmead Children’s Hospital, Sydney Children’s Hospital, and with the Child and Youth Mental Health Team at Hornsby Hospital, where she progressed to the position of Clinical Lead. She has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of infants, children, adolescents, parenting and family psychology, and has worked with a wide variety of presenting issues. Sonja has also worked as a School Psychologist in three independent schools and served on the Psychologists in Schools Interest Group committee of the Australian Psychological Society for three years.
Sonja was the Perinatal Psychologist for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District, supporting pregnant women (and their partners) with antenatal and postnatal mental health difficulties, difficulties adjusting to parenthood, improving the quality of attachment and bonding with their infant, and confidence in parenting and co-parenting, working closely with the Maternity and Safestart Teams at Hornsby Hospitals, and the Child and Family Health Teams in Northern Sydney. Subsequently, she was appointed as Area Manager for the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service of Northern Sydney Local Health District, overseeing 4 teams across the district. Sonja has also held various clinical and leadership roles in the private sector, delivering clinical services to adults of all stages of life, and every type of clinical presentation, as well as EAP counselling and Critical Incident Response.
Sonja has been a Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor since 2005, with over 20 years of experience training psychologists on clinical placement, provisional psychologists and psychologists seeking specialised endorsement in Clinical Psychology with AHPRA. She has also provided individual and group supervision to a range of other allied health staff such as nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatry registrars and peer workers. Sonja has been the external clinical supervisor for teams of staff working in organisations such as Northern Sydney CYMHS and a private Inpatient Mental Health Hospital.
Sonja is experienced in national-level clinical governance and management, ensuring safe and quality mental health care with positive patient/client outcomes, managing day-to-day clinical operations, responding to feedback and complaints, people and performance management, and has initiated and implemented many quality improvement initiatives at scale using change management frameworks. Sonja is passionate about developing high-quality staff and teams, excellence in clinical service delivery, continuous improvement and innovation, and integration of evidence-based digital health and AI technology into mental health treatment. Sonja is currently the Acting Convenor for the ePsychology Interest Group of the Australian Psychological Society.
